Prop Firm Evaluations and Funded Accounts: A Filipino Trader's Guide

A prop firm evaluation is a paid test of your trading skill; pass it and the firm may fund your account.

What a Prop Firm Evaluation Actually Is

A prop firm evaluation is a paid test of your trading skill. You trade a simulated account under the firm's rules, and if you meet those rules the firm may give you a funded account with its own money. You do not deposit trading capital in the usual sense; you pay an evaluation fee, and the firm sets the targets, drawdown limits and time window.

That is the whole model in one line. The firm carries the market risk on funded accounts, so it decides the rules. Read those rules before paying anything, because they differ sharply between firms and they are what you are actually being judged against.

A funded account is not a salary and not a guarantee. Payouts depend on the firm's terms and on your trading. Treat any figure you see advertised as a claim to verify on the firm's own funding page, not as an expectation.

Checking a Firm Before You Pay Anything

Start with the SEC Philippines list of registered entities at sec.gov.ph. You can search it yourself and see what appears. That register is the place to check, not a forum post and not a review site with affiliate links.

Beyond registration, read the firm's own documents: the evaluation rules, the payout terms, the refund policy and the jurisdiction whose law governs the contract. If a term is unclear, ask the firm's support in writing and keep the reply. A firm that will not answer a plain question about its own rules is telling you something.

Payment method matters too. Many Filipino traders prefer GCash or Maya, and some firms accept card or bank transfer instead. Whichever rail you use, the fee leaves your account immediately and the firm's refund policy decides whether it comes back. Check the firm's funding page and your GCash app for what is actually supported before you commit.

Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Confirm both in the provider's app and on the broker's funding page, and withdraw to the same account you paid from.

Fitting Evaluations Around Philippine Time

Your session clock is PHT, UTC+8, and it shapes which markets you can realistically watch. Sydney runs 05:00 to 14:00 PHT and Tokyo 08:00 to 17:00 PHT, so the Asian hours sit comfortably inside a normal Filipino working day. London opens at 16:00 PHT and runs to 01:00, and New York runs 20:00 to 05:00 PHT.

The London and New York overlap falls at 20:00 to 01:00 PHT. That is the busiest window of the day, and it is also late evening locally. Many people with day jobs can only trade that overlap, which means late nights and less sleep. Decide honestly whether your schedule supports the hours your strategy needs.

If you cannot watch a session, you cannot manage a position in it. An evaluation with a strict drawdown rule punishes inattention, so pick a market window you can genuinely monitor rather than one that merely looks active on a chart.

Hours are shown for the clocks in force today: London is on GMT until 28 March, New York is on EDT until 1 November. The Philippines does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.

Rules, Discipline and the Realistic Path

Most evaluations fail on rule breaches, not on bad market calls. Daily loss caps, overall drawdown limits and consistency requirements are the usual tripwires, and one careless session can end the attempt. Read the rulebook twice, then write your own limits down before you place a trade.

Keep your records. Note the fee you paid, the date, the firm's stated rules and any support replies. If a dispute arises, that paper trail is what you have, and it is also what you need if you ever raise the matter with the firm formally.

Nothing here promises a profit, because none can be promised. A prop firm evaluation is a cost with an uncertain outcome. Budget the fee as money you can afford to lose, size your expectations to the rules rather than to advertising, and let the register at sec.gov.ph answer the question of who you are dealing with.

A figure with no source and no date is a guess with good manners. Anything we could not trace is left out rather than printed from memory.

The Payout Method Matters More Than the Entry Fee

Most Filipino traders compare evaluations by the entry price, then discover the withdrawal route much later. That order is backwards. Before paying anything, ask the firm how funded traders are paid out and in which currency, because the answer decides how the money actually reaches you.

A payout that lands as an international bank transfer can pass through several intermediaries, each with its own timeline and conversion step. A route that terminates in a local wallet or InstaPay transfer usually settles faster and is easier to trace. The firm's own funding page is the only place to confirm which methods it supports.

Read the withdrawal terms on the firm's site before the evaluation, not after passing it. If the payout method is unclear there, treat that as a reason to pause rather than a detail to sort out later. The entry fee is a one-off; the payout route governs every withdrawal you ever make.

A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. The licence question is answered on the register, not in the app store.

Separate the Platform Login from the Firm's Client Area

New traders often confuse two different logins. One opens the trading platform where the evaluation account lives. The other opens the firm's client area, where you buy the challenge, upload identity documents and later request a payout. Losing track of either one creates avoidable delays.

Keep both sets of credentials in a password manager rather than a notes app on the same phone. Filipino traders frequently run everything on a single handset, so a lost or replaced device can lock you out of both accounts at once. Recovery usually needs the email address used at signup, so keep that inbox accessible.

Check which email you registered with before you pay. If you used a work address you may lose access to, change it while the account is still active. Sorting this out during a payout request is far more stressful than sorting it out on day one.

Brokers usually also ask for proof of address; requirements differ per firm. The account-opening page of the broker lists what that firm accepts.

Why a Demo Pass Does Not Predict a Funded Pass

Many traders practise on a demo account, pass comfortably, then fail a paid evaluation on the same strategy. The difference is rarely skill. A demo account carries no financial consequence, so position sizing and stop placement are made casually. Under a real evaluation, those same decisions carry weight and the behaviour changes.

The failure mode is specific. Traders hold a losing position longer than the plan allowed, hoping for a recovery, because the loss now feels real. That single habit breaks daily loss rules faster than any bad market call. The rules are usually what ends an evaluation, not the strategy.

Treat a paid evaluation as the first honest test of temperament, not a repeat of the demo. Size positions as though the account were funded, because the psychological conditions already are. If the demo result cannot survive that shift, the evaluation fee is being spent on information rather than progress.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Search the legal entity from the broker's own footer, not the brand.

What to Do When a Firm Changes Its Rules Mid-Evaluation

Firms sometimes revise payout terms, maximum lot sizes or permitted strategies while an evaluation is running. This is common and not automatically a red flag. What matters is whether the change was announced clearly and whether it applies to accounts already purchased or only to new ones.

Save the terms you agreed to at purchase. A dated screenshot or a copy of the confirmation email is enough. If a dispute arises later, that record shows which version applied to your account. Without it, the conversation becomes one person's memory against another's.

If a change makes the evaluation unwinnable under its original terms, ask the firm in writing how it applies to your account. Keep the reply. If the answer is unclear or the firm will not confirm, that is useful information about how a future payout request might be handled.

Can I pay for a prop firm evaluation with GCash?

Some firms accept GCash, and others use Maya, InstaPay, PESONet, bank transfer or card. Support varies by firm, so check the firm's own funding page and your GCash app before you assume a method works. The payment rail is separate from the evaluation itself, and paying does not change the rules you are trading under.

How do I check whether a prop firm is registered in the Philippines?

Go to sec.gov.ph and search the SEC Philippines list of registered entities. That public register is the source to use, and you can read it directly rather than relying on a summary from anyone else. If a name does not appear, that is information you can act on before paying a fee.

Which session should a Filipino trader focus on?

Sydney runs 05:00 to 14:00 PHT, Tokyo 08:00 to 17:00 PHT, London 16:00 to 01:00 PHT and New York 20:00 to 05:00 PHT, with the London and New York overlap at 20:00 to 01:00 PHT. The overlap is the busiest window but also the latest locally. Choose the session you can actually watch and manage, since an evaluation with a strict drawdown rule does not forgive inattention.

Trading forex and CFDs on margin carries a high risk of losing more than you deposit. Most retail accounts lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice.
